Sandra Vandermerwe and Christopher Lovelock, with Marika Taishoff

Hemel Hempstead, UK: Prentice-Hall, 1994, 480 pp. ISBN 0-13-097130-8

One of the European Casebook Series in Management, this book contains 29 cases and eight short textual notes, collectively covering a very broad cross-section of service industries. All but three of the cases are set in European countries. These materials are designed primarily for use in case-based MBA programs, but can also be used in executive seminars. Many of the cases could also be taught to advanced undergraduates.

This book can be used alone or to supplement another text. All the cases were prepared at IMD (International Institute for Management Development in Switzerland) and several have won European Case of the Year Awards.

Note: coauthor Sandra Vandermerwe, formerly at IMD, is now a professor at Imperial College, London. Marika Taishoff, who worked as a research associate on many of the cases, is now on the management faculty of Bocconi University in Italy.
